The story becomes more complex and somehow more worthy of the storyline - a phenomenon that could change the history of the world of Grisha. It also gives us more action in the Shadow Fold. It gives us an outsider’s view on the politics of a country split in two. SHADOW AND BONE PDF SERIESThe merging of both series made the show more fun and understandable expanding the world to the outside of Ravka. ![]() And if I have to say something about this, I’d say giving us the Nina-Matthias backstory was the show creator's treat to us readers alone, and I cannot complain in the slightest. It did seem amazing how two different stories were so seamlessly threaded together. The addition of characters like Nina - a Grisha and Matthias - a Grisha hunter was something that wasn’t required for the main story. I had higher expectations of Kaz and his cane, but I can make peace with it, thinking it is a mere prequel to what we see the Crows as in their own books. Kit Young is the perfect Jesper (if not better) with his charm and guns and gambling. We got the colorful and chaotic scenes of Ketterdam to juxtapose with the Fold of Ravka. Everything the Shadow and Bone book lacked was remedied tenfold in a show solely because of the Crows, in my opinion. SHADOW AND BONE PDF TVThe inclusion of the Six of Crows was the best choice made in the history of TV shows. We don’t actually get to see what drives him to his cause in anything but a flashback that paints him even more as a man driven by vengeance than a savior of all Grisha. My brother was not convinced at all and kept saying, “He definitely has a bigger game.” That made me defend the Darkling and his greater cause just so my brother would be as shocked as I had been while reading the book. But it seemed like the show built him to be too much of a menace too early on. The best fun of reading the book was swayed to his side and not figuring out his intentions. I felt like the Darkling wasn’t shown as enigmatic as I would have liked. It was a shame to see one of only two people that made me laugh out loud in the whole show be killed off halfway through the show. The show included flashbacks of Mal and Alina in their orphanage and did a wonderful job at merging the past with the present. In the first book, Mal had been almost non-existent after Alina had been taken to the Little Palace for training. I particularly liked seeing Mal’s journey, how his bravery and love for Alina made him find his way to her. This certainly gives her depth and makes her dilemma of never fitting in relatable. And he looked like the enemy.” - Alina Starkov, Shadow and Bone: The Show So they made certain changes in the background of the character, making her half-Shu, with her mother being from Shu Han, the neighboring country at war with Ravka. The showrunners must have known about the blandness and lack of impact of Alina. It made it easy to stan other characters (my Crows) more. SHADOW AND BONE PDF PLUSSo for me, that was the biggest plus point for the show. She was a small, though mandatory, piece in a larger plot and we cannot see most things of importance if they are not revealed to her. She was just too bland for me, and a bit inactive on the big picture. ![]() And truth be told, Alina was not the best character for that. The Shadow and Bone books were written in the first-person point of view of Alina. But this power also makes her very valuable and a group of criminals is on their way to abduct her for the high price on her head. And her biggest supporter in this journey is General Kirigan - the Darkling - the General of the Grisha military. SHADOW AND BONE PDF HOW TOTheir gift allows them to have the power of manipulating matter.Īlina has to learn how to harness her newfound power of light to banish the Fold and unite the country again. The Grisha are as strong as they are feared and reviled. When in an expedition across the Fold they get attacked by the Volcra, monstrous beasts that live in the darkness, Alina shows a never-before-seen power of summoning sunlight, making her a living myth that would save the country - and part of the elite force called Grisha. Alina has never wanted anything except being close to her best friend since childhood, Mal, who is also a soldier in the army. In a Tsarist Russia-style world, Alina is a mere cartographer in the army of a war-trodden country, caged by war on both bordering countries and a menacing strip of darkness splitting the country in two, called the Unsea or Shadow Fold. SHADOW AND BONE PDF FULLBut I learned that darkness is a place and it’s full of monsters.” “When I was young, I was afraid of the darkness. ![]()
